Avenger of the Week | Vivian Lord

We love when gender-avenging begins at a young age. After cashing in her arcade prize tickets for some of those little toy soldier figurines, 6-year-old Vivian Lord looked through the pack carefully and asked the same question we ask almost daily, “Where are the women?” Her parents conducted a quick internet search and discovered that there aren’t any women toy soldiers — all the toys soldiers made are men. Disappointed by that discovery, Vivian took a few hours out of her summer vacation to write letters to U.S. toymakers asking if they’d make some. One company said yes!

Thanks to BMC Toys, beginning in 2020 kids will see the military women they look up to and respect represented in the iconic way we've always expected for men. We salute Vivian for taking action and initiating change and BMC Toys for making it happen.
