#HallofShame: Cannes Film Festival Palme d'Or Award

Palme d'Or

Every year Cannes Film Festival awards a director with the Palme d’Or, which is its most prestigious film award.

Women directors are barely in the running. Out of the 20 films eligible for the Palme d’Or in 2016, only three are directed by women.

The Cannes Film Festival dubbed 2015 “the year of the woman,” yet that title did little to  improve the noticeable lack of women directors in the running for a Palme d’Or this year. Women directors don’t need a “Year of the Woman.” Women need the work they’re doing every year to get the respect and acknowledgement it deserves.

The Cannes Film Festival starts on May 11th. Show them that we’re watching and we’re sick of waiting for women directors to get the recognition that they deserve.

Where are the women, @Cannes?
