Avenger of the Week | Dame Helen Alexander, Former CEO of The Economist Group

The gender equality movement lost a great leader earlier this month when Helen Alexander passed away. Alexander most notably served as chief executive of The Economist Group where she was responsible for doubling the circulation of The Economist and significantly increasing revenue.

In addition, Alexander was the first female president of the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) and Deputy Chair of the Hampton-Alexander Review, “"an independent review body working to increase the number of women on FTSE boards and improve women's representation in senior leadership positions.” This review, and the work of Helen Alexander and her team, decreased the number of all-male boards in the FTSE 350 from 152 to 14 and continues to work toward the gender parity of leadership of companies on the Financial Times Stock Exchange.
